While taking part in the survey programme the district collector along with the forest officials walked for more than three kilometres in the forest along with Rammonah Reddy. Speaking on the occasion the District Collector Ronald Rose said, “As part of National wild life survey, the District Forest administration has embarked on a weeklong wild life census from January 22-29. The Forest Range Officers have been given special kits to identify the forest dwellers. Apart from identifying Tiger pugs, they will also collect left over remains of animals like hair, dung etc to enumerate the population of wild life in the forest,” said the Collector.

As part of recent district re-organisation, Mahbubnagar district had got an area of 8,000 acres of Forest land from Ranga Reddy district merged with the existing forest areas. With this the forest area in the district has increased and we are expecting the wild life population will also be varied this time, said Collector.

For enumerating the population of the wild life in these areas the Forest staff have been given special kit to identify different living organisms in the forest areas. They will conduct forest beat and walk along with the forest areas and identify wild animals like Wolf, Jackal, Deer, and Tigers etc.

As part of the survey the Forest staff will carry the specialised kits along with them. The kits will contain all necessary equipments and items like plaster of Paris, pressing paper which will help the Forest officials to note the wild life in the forest.  Apart from gathering Tiger pugs and other remains of wild animals the officials will also check if there is adequate water availability for the wild dwellers in the forest.

The officials have also decided to set up CCTV cameras at water ponds and trenches where is possibility of movement of more animals and the animals will be identified. The Collector directed the officials that apart from conducting regular beats in the forest they should also ensure that the animals will not fall prey to the hunters and must keep a vigil of the forest areas from time to time.

The Collector expressed concern that day by day the reproduction rate of forest dwellers is fast decreasing because which the wild life population in the country is drastically decreasing. For improving this, it is time that the Forest Department take corrective measures and see that the forest dwellers increase their population and preserve them for the future generations. Gangireddy, District Forest officer, Forest Beat officers Manjula and Peerya Nayak along with Tahsildar Gagi Reddy and other Forest staff accompanied the District Collector.
