Girl dies, boy fighting for life
Warangal: On the eve of Valentines’ Day, a minor girl, who allegedly attempted suicide along with her lover at Kaleshwaram in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district, died on Tuesday while the boy, being treated at MGM Hospital, was fighting for life.
According to the police, M Hari Priya of New Shayampet and P Sai Kumar of Deendayal Nagar, both aged around 17 years, left their houses in Hanamkonda on February 11 as their parents objected to their love affair as they belonged to different castes.
After reaching Kaleshwaram they reportedly consumed poison on the banks of River Godavari during the wee hours of Tuesday. A few devotees, who went for a holy dip in the river prior to offering prayers at Sri Kaleshwara Muktheeshwara Swamy temple on account of Maha Sivaratri, found them in an unconscious state.
They immediately called the 108 ambulance service. However, Hari Priya died while being shifted to Mahadevpur community hospital and Sai Kumar was shifted to MGM hospital. He was put on ventilator at Intensive Care Unit and his condition was said to be critical. The duo was studying polytechnic second year in different colleges in the city. They were said to be in love since their school days.
After Hari Priya left the house, her parents Sridevi and Ramesh lodged missing complaint at Subedari police station in Hanamkonda. A case in connection with the incident was booked at Mahadevpur police station.
