CWC demands action against hospitals, doctors fleecing patients
Khammam: District president of Consumer Welfare Council (CWC) S Janardhan Rao alleged that private hospitals and doctors were doing business with the health of people and robbing of their money, and demanded the government to keep check on such hospitals.
The representatives of the CWC staged a dharna here at Dharna Chowk and took out a protest rally. Later, they submitted a memorandum to District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar at the Collectorate on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Janardhan Rao said the profession was doctor was considered to be the most sacred one. But, some greedy doctors and hospital managements have turned the profession into a money minting business.
Many innocent people are getting robbed in the name of various tests, bed charges, ICU charges and many more like that, he alleged. Apart from that, the diagnostic centres which have secret understanding with hospitals are charging more money for tests, he pointed out.
“The private hospitals and their doctors are doing business with the health of people by appointing agents and asking them to visit nearby villages and consult the RMP doctors, who can suggest the people to visit their hospitals by luring them with commissions,” he added.
The government must intervene and keep a check on such hospitals and doctors, he demanded. Council’s general secretary Reddymalla Kaladhar, representatives from various people’s organisations, intellectuals, educationists, social reformers and students took part in the protest rally.
