Don’t harass trolley drivers: CITU to officials

Khammam: It was not fair on the part of municipal officials who were harassing trolley auto drivers, said Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) district general secretary Kalyanam Venkateshwar Rao here in Khammam on Wednesday.

As many as 40 trolley auto drivers working under Khammam Municipal Corporation limits joined the Telangana Municipal Workers’ and Employment Union affiliated to the CITU under the leadership of Kalyanam Venkateshwar Rao here in Khammam on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkateshwar Rao advised the newly-joined members to behave with responsibility and stand united to fight for protecting the rights of the working class. The officials must co-operate with the trolley auto drivers as per the work orders issued to them without creating any obstacles and must not impose any restriction, he said. Municipal officials were not showing interest in doing registrations of trolley autos even after collecting Rs 50,000 as deposits, he alleged.

Moreover, some of the officials were behaving stubbornly with some trolley auto drivers and harassing them which would be not tolerated further, he warned. CITU joint secretary Vishnu Vardhan, leaders Jinkala Srinu, V Anjaneyulu, A Rangaiah, P Raju, G Ramu, V Ramesh, A Yadagiri, Bhadra and P Venkataiah were present along with others.
