Muslim women rally protesting Triple Talaq Bill

Nalgonda: More than 100 Muslim women led by Islamic scholar Jakaria stated that Shariah law was their honour and demanded the Central government to withdraw the Triple Talaq Bill unconditionally.

On the call given by All India Muslim Personnel Law Board, under the aegis of RABTA committee of Nalgonda, nearly 100 Muslim women with placards took out a protest before the collectorate. Speaking to media, Jakaria informed that Muslim women strongly felt that Muslim Women Act -2017 was passed in a haste in Lok Sabha and the Bill was processed without consulting top religious scholars and intellectuals of the community.

“After the Supreme Court judgment on August 22, 2017, there is no need of such Bill. The content of the Bill is against the Constitution of India. The Bill is anti-social as the civil contract is penalised converting it into criminal offence,” she added.

Saira Banu, who approached the court on Triple Talaq neither took talaq nor she is a representative of Muslim women, Jakaria underlined. As Muslim women, they reject the Bill and appeal the government to take back as it is against the Constitution of India, she informed.

Jakaria further added that Muslim women were deeply hurt by the statement of the President, who in his joint Parliamentary speech, stated that Triple Talaq Bill would emancipate Muslim women and would give a life of honour and dignity. “Such remarks are direct insult and attack on the Muslim community,” she felt.

Later, a 10-member Muslim women delegation met District Collector Gaurav Uppal at his chambers and submitted a representation to him.
