Khammam: It is compulsory that everyone follow traffic rules without violating them, advised local MLA Puvvada Ajaya Kumar, inaugurating the ‘Road Safety Awareness Rally’, along with DCP K Suresh Kumar, organised by Vijaya Engineering College in association with Traffic Police here on Wednesday.

A massive rally was taken out by the students of Vijaya Engineering College to create awareness about road safety among people from Pavilion Grounds to Sardar Patel Stadium, via Mayuri centre and ZP centre here in Khammam. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA urged people to follow traffic rules for a safe journey.

“Wearing of helmet must be mandatory for bike riders,” he said, advising the students to be extra cautious while riding the bikes and other vehicles.

DCP Suresh Kumar mocked that though people purchase mobile coves to protect their phones, they fail to but helmets to protect their precious lives. “Citizens and students who are attending this programme and those who own a vehicle must purchase a helmet without fail,” advised the DCP.

Traffic Circle Inspector Sada Niranjan said it was happy to see that Vijaya Engineering College students came forward to organise such a wonderful programme to create awareness about road safety and traffic rules among people. “About 70 per cent of accidents which are taking place were involving people below 30 years.

So, it is important and compulsory that the students and youth of present generation follow the traffic rules strictly, he suggested. ACP P V Ganesh, Vijaya Engineering College Correspondent Buchi Rama Rao, College Principal Dr D Ramesh and staff members took part in the rally.
