TJAC asks govt to take steps to prevent farmers’ suicides

Khammam: District chairman of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Dr S Papa Lal criticised that it was shame on the part of TRS government for not taking any steps to prevent farmers suicides even after formation of separate Telangana.

Speaking at a district general body meeting held under the leadership of Y Vikram here in Khammam on Wednesday, Papa Lal alleged that many farmers across the State were committing suicides for not getting good yield despite investing huge amounts of money by lending from others. Moreover, the government was not paying minimum support price for the produce.

Instead of taking precautionary steps for preventing farmers’ suicides, the TRS government is imposing restrictions at agriculture market and by joining hands with the middlemen and traders, robbing the innocent farmers and forcing them to take extreme step, he alleged.

There are no signs of implementation of GO 194, which is meant to pay ex gratia to the families of farmers who committed suicide, he said. He demanded the government to take necessary steps for saving the farming community besides providing aid to kin of deceased farmers.

Committee representatives Bhadru Naik, Venkateshwarlu, Kishore, Venkata Ramana, Srinu, Veeranna, G Shankari, T Tamu, Lakshman, Ramesh, Ravi and Veeru were present along with others.
