Municipal workers demand enhancement of salaries

Khammam: The Joint Secretary of the District Municipal Workers Union-JAC, Tumma Vishnuvardhan, on Friday urged the government not to go back on its promise to enhance salaries for Municipal workers and implement the GO 14. The Union general body meeting was held with the leaders of Municipal Workers Union-JAC here at CITU office in Khammam on Friday. 

Speaking at the meeting, T Vishnuvardhan demanded that the government increase the salaries of all municipal workers in the State with retrospective effect from June 2, 2014 as per 10th Pay Revision Commission recommendations. The government enhanced the salaries for the municipal workers in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to grab their votes, but failed to do so in various districts across the State, he alleged. 

Due to several movements led by the municipal workers, the government issued the GO 14 and promised to enhance the salaries for all the municipal workers, but did not implement it till date, he pointed.

Demanding that the government to implement the GO 14 immediately. The Union, he said, has planned agitational programmes like begging on March 6 and 7, picketing the Collectorates on March 12, round-table conference on March 14 and Statewide strike on March 15, 16 and 17, he said. 

He urged all the municipal workers to participate in large numbers in the programmes, to be organised from March 6 to teach the government a fitting lesson. The CITU leaders J Srinu, Prasad, IFTU leaders Ch Viplav Kumar, Veeraiah, Suryam, Narayana, INTUC leaders Gade Lakshmi Narayana, T Krishna and M Jayaraj were present along with others.
