DWMA demands action against illegal water plants
Khammam: District Secretary of the ‘ISI Drinking Water Manufacturers Association’ V Ram Reddy on Monday demanded that the government take necessary actions against the illegal water plants in Khammam. Speaking to the media persons at the Press Club here, Ram Reddy alleged that several small water plant units were established by unauthorised people and running mineral water business using the fake ISI mark.
He said the government has given permission to about eight mineral water plant units in Khammam by imposing certain conditions along with issuing guidelines and is collecting about Rs 2 lakh every year for renewals.
Moreover, the owners of the water plant units are investing additional Rs 2 lakh for lab technicians and for other purposes to maintain the quality as per the guidelines issued by the government, he said.
But some people opened several unauthorised water plants across the district by using fake ISI mark symbols and are doing the business. Such practices may cause ill-health to people, he alleged.
The owners of the authorised Water plants gave a representation to the officials to take necessary actions against such people who running illegal water plants. But the officials failed to take action, he said.
If the officials failed to respond, the owners of the authorised water plants would shut the ISI mark water plant units from March 12 onwards, he warned.
