AIDWA protests over delay in passing women reservation bill
Khammam: The State President of the All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA), Buggaveeti Sarala, here on Tuesday demanded that the Central government introduce Bill to provide 33 per cent reservation for women during Parliament session.
The representatives of the AIDWA took out a rally from Pavillion grounds to Mayuri centre through ZP centre and held a rasto roko as part of the call given by the Central Committee here in Khammam on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Sarala alleged that both the Congress party, which was in power in the past, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in power now, paid no attention to the Bill.
Due to several movements, led by the women organisations across the country, the Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha in the year 2010. But there till date the governments in the past and present had not taken any initiative for introducing the Bill in the Lok Sabha, she said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was making promises, but failed to introduce the Bill in Lok Sabha, she said.
Traffic was disrupted due to rasta roko. The police intervened and cleared the traffic. AIDWA leaders Bandi Padma, Meharunissa Begum, P Naga Sulochana, P Ramya, M Naga Mani, N Uma, V Padma, Indira, K Amaravathi, M Pushpa, V Ramya, Usha and G Uma were present along with others.
