Good price cheers chilli farmers
Khammam: The prices of chillies is shooting up after series of agitations in Agricultural Market to the relief of chilli growers here in Khammam. According to the trade sources, the price of best variety of chilli is trading at Rs 9,500 a quintal on Monday. The farmers have brought nearly 40,000 bags of chillies to the agricultural market.
Following drastic fall in prices of chilli to Rs 7,000 a quintal few days ago, the chilli farmers locked the main gate of the Market Yard and staged a sit-in, demanding that the officials fix the minimum support price of Rs 11,000 per quintal.
In response to the protests by the chilli farmers, the Market Yard officials tightened the security arrangements by deploying police forces and brought the situation under control. They officials did not even allow the leaders of opposition parties and media persons into the Market Yard to prevent any untoward incidents.
Market experts expect further increase in chilli prices in coming days. Even discoloured chillies are also fetching Rs 7,500 per quintal.
The market officials along with the officials of police department under the supervision of Three Town Circle Inspector Venkanna Babu have taken several precautionary steps to ensure free flow of traffic problems and for maintenance of weighing machines perfectly without giving any scope for irregularities.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police Ganesh made a surprise visit and inspected the Market Yard.
