35,000 poor denied ration for one year
Mahbubnagar: With the authorities making it compulsory to link their Aadhaar cards with the ration card, as many as 35,000 poor people in Mahbubnagar district have been deprived of their rightful share in government’s welfare scheme though ration shops for the past one year.
Even though some of them are having Aadhaar cards, the ration dealers have failed to record it in their registers, leading to a delay in linking their ration cards with the Aadhaar cards. Some of them have yet to get their Aadhaar cards, while some others, who are illiterate, are yet to register with the Aadhaar to get new cards. However, overall majority of them who are genuinely eligible are facing trouble to get their ration because of the Aadhaar linkage problem.
At present there are 588 ration shops and more than 2.31 lakh ration cardholders. They are getting their ration items every month in the district. But because of Aadhaar card linkage problem, more than 35,000 eligible persons are being deprived of their rights.
For instance, in Kodangal constituency as many as 5,000 ration cardholders from Kodangal, Bomraspet and Doulathabad mandals are being denied of ration items because of lack of Aadhar linkage with their ration cards.
“As many as 5,000 people in our constituency are deprived of ration items on the pretext of Aadhaar linkage. The main reason for this injustice is because of apathy of the officials and the leaders. Despite many representations and complaints nothing has changed, and the poor continue to be deprived of the government’s welfare schemes.
We demand the government and the officials that they soon provide some solution and come to the rescue of the poor by providing help,” said Dasarai Balakistaiah, a resident Kodangal mandal.
