Hamalis at MLS points demand revision of labour charge
Khammam: District unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) leader Y Srinivas Rao here on Monday alleged that the government had failed to redress the issues of the hamalis in Civil Supply MLS (mandal-level stock) points.
The Civil Supply Worker’s Union organised a sit-in in protest against the government for failing to address their problems in front of the Civil Supply MLS point here. Speaking on the occasion, the CITU district leader Y Srinivas Rao said that the workers had given representations to the Ministers concerned for several years, demanding revision of wages. But till date there was no signs of any initiative being taken by the government to redress their grievances, he alleged.
He demanded that the government recognise the employees working in MLS points in Civil Supply Corporation as class IV employees and also enhance the loading and unloading rates to Rs 25 per a quintal at every MLS points.
He also demanded that minimum salary be paid for the sweepers working at MLS points and two pairs of clothes for every worker be provided in a year, besides paying bonus at the rate of of Rs10,000 during Dasara and Deepavali festivals.
If the government failed to fulfil the demands, the workers would intensify agitation. Members of the Union Y Gopi, K Srinu, B Anji Reddy, B Lingaiah, P Rama chandra, J Venkanna, Veeraswami, T Ravi, Srishailam, Venkat Reddy, Prasad, Vijaya, N Venkanna and P Srinu were present along with others.
