Sattupalli, Madhira Panchayats to be upgraded as municipalities

Khammam: The Sattupalli and Madhira Nagar Panchayats will soon be upgraded to Municipalities along with 19 other panchayats. Orders to this effect have been issued under GO No. 69.

The Madhira is upgraded as Nagar Panchayat from Gram Panchayat in 2013 with the merger of Yellandupady, Ambarpeta and Madupalli villages. Now merging Jilugumadu village, Madhira is upgraded as Municipality. Orders to this effect were issued by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department. MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy took the initiative for it.

Sattupalli constituency occupies a special place in the district. It is not only a hub of political active but also is on top position in the district in terms of development. Sattupalli is upgraded as major panchayat in 1998 during the reign of MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao. It is further upgraded as Nagar Panchayat from Major panchayat in 2005.

With the orders issued by MA&UD Department, along with Madhira, Sattupalli is upgraded as Municipality from Nagar Panchayat. The population of Madhira as per 2011 census is 29,222, while the population of Sattupalli is 39,000.

 Welcoming the government’s decision, Vice-chairperson of Sattupalli Nagar Panchayat Umameshwar Rao said the Sattupalli town would witness development as it would get more funds from the government.

Councillor of Sattupalli Nagar Panchayat Challagulla Krishnaiah said with initiative taken up by the Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao about 236 development works were taken up till date and about Rs15 crore would be sanctioned for the development works of JVR Park, Grave Yard, Shadikhana, Krishnamandiram road, Ayyagaripeta Park, Dump yard and NTR Nagar community hall.
