Bhootpur set to become 100 percent ODF mandal in Mahbubnagar district
Mahbubnagar: Bhootpur mandal, which is about 10 km away from district headquarters of Mahbubnagar, will soon be tagged as 100 per cent open defecation free mandal in the district.
Except Amistapur village, almost all the 16 village panchayats in Bhootpur mandal will have individual household latrines (IHHLs) in a few days to come. “We are very soon going to declare Bhootpur mandal as the first ODF mandal in Mahbubnagar.
However, the construction of IHHLs works in Amistapur village are lagging behind. More than 150 households in the mandal are yet to get IHHLs. We have conducted a meeting with the IHHL Construction Committee members of Amistapur village and directed the officials concerned to speed up the works,” informed district collector Ronald Rose.
The Collector enquired with the villagers and members of IHHLs Construction Committee members on the reasons for the delay of construction of the individual latrines. The Collector said that if all the five committees formed to create awareness on the necessity and importance of IHHLS with the villagers and perform their responsibility properly, the construction work can be speeded up.
While interacting with Pedda Sailu, a resident of Amistapur village, who did not have an individual household latrine, the Collector asked him to build a single room IHHL at his home for which the government will deposit Rs 12,000 in his bank account.
The Collector said having an individual household bathrooms for every household will bring lot of self-respect to the family members and it would also help in improving the health conditions of the people in the village.
Encouraging the villagers to soon lay foundation for the IHHLs and begin construction of the bathrooms and latrines to each household, the collector said if Amistapur completes the construction of all the pending 150 IHHLS in a targeted period, then very soon Bhootpur mandal will be declared as the first ODF free mandal in the district.
