New ration cards from April 1 in Khammam district
Khammam: District Civil Supplies Department is gearing up to issue new ration cards to all the eligible from April 1. The State government has directed Civil Supplies Department to provide ration cards.
There are a total of 3,95,000 ration cardholders and they are drawing rations 669 fair price shops in the district. A total of 7,250 metric tons of rice is being distributed to the beneficiaries every month.
Existing ration cardholders will be given new ration cards straightaway. Those, who could not get ration cards earlier, can now apply for them with effect from April 1.
The State government’s decision to sanction new ration cards is likely to benefit 6,000 poor people whose application remain pending. Those, who seek new ration cards, are asked to apply at Mee-Seva centres from April 1 as per the guidelines issued by the State government.
The applications, which are made at Mee-Seva centres, will be sent to the Tahsildar’s office and they later will be sent to Revenue officials after verification. The applications after being processed will be sent to the Civil Supplies Department for issuing new ration cards.
The District Civil Supply Officer Sandhya Rani said the government is firm on supplying PDS rice to real beneficiaries and is taking several steps to accomplish the task. The government has already introduced Biometric system at ration shops to keep check.
The government also decided to distribute the rice by introducing new system called portable system. With the portable system, the beneficiaries can draw rations from any fair price shop across the State by just revealing his card number and using finger prints through biometric system, she added.
