CPI demands compensation to rain-hit farmers

Mahbubnagar: With the farming sector facing crisis due to unseasonal rains during the past two to three days, district Communist Party leaders demanded that the State government immediately come to the rescue of the farmers and compensate accordingly.

While speaking to media, CPI district unit secretary Parameshwar Goud said the TRS government had turned a deaf ear to the farmers’ plight from very beginning. The government had failed to ensure that the rain and hailstorm-hit farmers get compensation through a week passed since the standing crop was damaged.

Neither the government nor government machinery had expressed their solidarity with the rain-hit farmers, he said. Leave alone the ministers, not a single MLA, MP or MLC had so far visited the villages to assess the damaged crops.

The KCR government is talking big but does not do anything on the ground. At least now the government should open its eyes and instruct the official machinery to go to villages and asses the crop damage and provide them compensation,” said Mr. Parameshwar Goud.

The CPI secretary also alleged that even during the previous occasion when the farmers in the district lost their crops due to drought and unseasonal rains the government had not come forward to rescue the farming community.

“Till date not a single penny is paid to the farmers for their crop damage due to the natural calamities since formation of Telangana State. Though the TRS government is claiming tall achievements and promising many things, nothing concrete was done,” alleged Parameshwar Goud.

He said that state government’s policies are against the farmers and farming sector. He said the State government had failed to implement the recommendations of Koneru Ranga Rao Committee. He demanded that the government come out with a clear plan to rescue the farmers.
