Rains, hailstorm damage crops worth `10 cr
Mahbubnagar: With unseasonal rains during the past one week damaging the crops, the farmers in Wanaparthy, Gadwal, Nagarkurnool and Mahbubnagar districts are in distress. It is estimated that the both paddy and horticulture crops in not less than 1,000 acres have been damaged. Estimates put the loss of crop at Rs 10 crores.
The standing paddy crop, which is ready for harvest, fell to ground due to hailstorm in Nagarkurnool district. Similarly, the Gadwal district has witnessed heavy loss to the sapota (chikoo) and orange orchards. The districts of Wanaparthy and Mahbubnagar mango farmers suffered huge crop loss. “The mango plantations in Mahbubnagar have been hit hard.
We have visited the plantations across the district during the past two to three days. We are requesting the State government to immediately conduct a survey and come to the rescue of farmers who are in distress,” said S K Mujeed, CPI mandal secretary from Jadcherla.
In the entire erstwhile Mahbubnagar district, it is estimated that both the paddy and horticulture crops were damaged to a great extent and heavy losses have been caused to the farmers. “We have lost everything this time.
Under the Udandapur reservoir our lands were taken away and now the even mango orchards haven suffered damage. We are requesting the government to immediately come to our rescue and save us from the losses,” said Venkat Reddy, a mango farmer from Chinnepally village under Jadcherla mandal.
