Mahbubnagar: District Collector Ronald Rose extended a financial aid of Rs 7.5 lakh to support new sports policy in Mahbubnagar on Wednesday. Earlier, the District Collector along with District Youth and Sports Officer (DYSO) Satya Vani conducted a meeting to review progress of the new sports policy and asked the sports lovers, philanthropists and social activists to extend their support and donate liberally.

“We have launched the new sports policy in the district to encourage the rural youth to exhibit their sporting talents at the State, national and international level. For this we need to encourage local sports associations and other sports bodies to upgrade and train talented sportspersons in the district,” said the Collector.

As part of the sports policy the district administration is seeking financial aid from the public and also from the associations and philanthropists to implement the sports policy they need at least Rs 7-10 lakh per annum. The major chunk of expenditure will go to pay for the coaches, for giving them prizes, for aiding the associations and to provide facilities for the sports persons.

To begin with the Mahbubnagar district administration has decided to fund at least 10 different sports under the new sports policy. To get benefited from this policy the sports associations must get registered with the DYSO before 31st of May this year.

The Collector said the sports department should also start preparing action plan to conduct state level competitions in the district. If needed he also suggested that the DYSO select top sports players and teams to send them to other States on tour for getting better exposure. “For better results of this new sports policy it is very important to have financial aid.

The meagre fund provided by the government is not sufficient for improving the sports. The role of public participation is very important,” noted Satya Vani, DYSO Mahbubnagar. As a financial aid to the corpus fund of the new sports policy scheme, DYSO Satya Vani, gave Rs 25,000 and a demand draft of Rs 7,200 was given by Chenna Veeraiah, president of Volleyball Association to the corpus fund.
