Create awareness on blood donation: Minister Laxma Reddy
Mahabubnagar: The Mega Blood donation camp, organised by The Hans India and HMTV in collaboration with the Red Cross Society in the town on Tuesday was a huge successfully attracting large number of volunteers to donate blood.
Inaugurating the blood donation camp, Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy, in his speech, extended his greetings and congratulated Hans India, HMTV and Kapil Chit Funds for organising such a noble programme on a large scale to benefit the people in distress.
“Donating blood is a noble deed; blood donated by one person can save the lives of four people, he added. I congratulate the managements of The Hans India and HMTV for conducting such a noble programme on the occasion of May Day,” the Minister added.
A total of 40 people donated their blood voluntarily. Apart from volunteers who donated blood, the Hans India, HMTV and staff from Kapil Chit Funds from Mahabubnagar also took part in the blood donation programme enthusiastically.
Furthermore, the Health Minister said that there was still a need for creating awareness among the general public regarding the importance of blood donation. “Even today, many people are having various fears regarding blood donation, which are unfounded. This has to be removed among the people by conducting more awareness programmes, especially in the rural areas,” opined the Minister.
The Minister said that donating blood would be helpful to the donor in two ways. On the one hand, giving blood would help the donor in developing new blood in his body and it would help keeping the person active and healthy. On the other, it would help save the lives of people who require blood during emergencies.
While listing out various development initiatives to improve the healthcare sector in the State, the Health minister said that unlike earlier, where the entire government hospital system was in doldrums, after the formation of Telangana State, the state government has taken up various measures to improve the infrastructure, appoint new healthcare staff and launched innovative schemes to attract patients to government hospitals.
“Today, we are witnessing a huge rise in the patients in government hospitals. This is a clear indication of the initiatives taken up by the State government to improve the quality of healthcare in the government sector. We are committed to provide more and more better healthcare facilities to the people and will continue to serve the people in all aspects,” said the Minister.
