Mahbubnagar: State government has initiated healthcare scheme by launching 50 Wellness Centres across the State to provide free healthcare check-up to the people in the villages. Of the 50 pilot wellness centres launched across the State, six have been established in Mahbubnagar district and Devarkadra mandal has been selected for this initiative.

But, not even one centre is not functioning properly. The main concept of launching the wellness centres is to help the poor in village to secure healthcare facilities in their own villages. As part of this, the Health Department launched wellness centres at Devarkadra, Venkatiahpally, Gukonda, Hadilapur, Nagara villages.

Dr Saritha, head of the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), said that a staff nurse was appointed. Entrance test was conducted to appoint staff. Those selected would be given training and appointed as Primary Healthcare Officers in the wellness centres or PHCs.

“The trained nurses along with the ANMs will be stationed at the local village PHC sub-centres and provide treatment to minor ailments. However, those who are diagnosed with the non-communicable disease and chronic diseases would be referred to higher level hospitals. This concept is being implemented on a pilot bases in Devarkadra,” said Dr Saritha.

On the other hand there are allegations that the healthcare staff appointed at the wellness centres are not attending their duties on time.
