Khammam TDP leaders slams Centre, State over agrarian crisis
Khammam: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) district president Tulluri Brahmaiah criticised the State government for not releasing funds which it has to pay to farmers with regard to grain procurement.
Speaking at the TDP workers’ dharna here on Monday, he demanded that the State government make payment to farmers with immediate effect.
“It has been over one month since the government had procured paddy and other crops from farmers.
The government which promised to credit the amount in just two days is yet to make payment. On the other hand, farmers are in dire need of cash with the onset of southwest monsoons,” Brahmaiah said.
The inordinate delay in payment is forcing farmers to approach private financiers for their kharif investment needs. This would invariably push farmers into debt trap, he said, demanding the administration to lend its ears to cultivators’ problems. “On the other hand, the agricultural input costs are on the rise due to hike in diesel prices,” he said, accusing the Central government for the agrarian crisis.
Later, the TDP workers submitted a memorandum to District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar. Senior leaders MB Swarna Kumari, Vasireddy Ramanatham, M Rama Rao, R Jaikar, K Satyanarayana, T Ravi and Tajuddin were among others present.
