CITU, AIAWU, AIKS to stage Jail Bharo on August 9 in Khammam

Khammam: Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) district unit leader Yerra Srikanth here on Wednesday appealed to the people of all sections to participate in large numbers in the jail bharo programme on August 9 to highlight the crisis facing the farmers.

The jail bharo programme will be staged under the leadership of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and All India Agriculture Workers Union (AIAWU) and CITU. A coordination meeting was held here under the leadership of Pasham Sathyanarayana at the CPI-M party office here. 

Speaking on the occasion, Srikanth said the economic reforms being carried out since 1991 had spelled disaster for farmers. The farmers were being denied minimum support price, he said.

CPI-M district unit leader T Lingaiah said that the farmers were forced to depend on moneylenders as the banks failed to go to their rescue. The farmers were increasingly becoming distressed and resorting to suicide, he said.

He urged the representatives of various people’s organisation and the party activists and leaders to participate in the jail bharo programme in large numbers and make it a grand success.

CITU leaders Y Srinivas Rao, Y Gopi, M Veera Swamy, K Alivelu, B Srinivas, Srishailam, Somaiah, N Narasimha Rao, P Nageshwara Rao, K Nagesh, H Bujji, M Mallikarjun and P Venkanna were present at the programme.
