Drug peddler nabbed after filing IT returns for Rs 40 lakh
A 34-year-old migrant construction labourer was arrested for peddling drugs in Bengaluru.
Police seized 26 kg of ganja and Rs 5 lakh cash from the accused, Rachappa Ranga.
The accused, who had come from Pushpapura, Chamarajanagara 12 years ago now resides off Kanakapura Road came under the police scanner when he declared Rs 40 lakh as his annual income after filing his income-tax returns.
IT department officials had contacted him as he had not mentioned the source of his income. However, during the police investigation, it was revealed that Rachappa worked as a construction labourer in Bengaluru before peddling drugs in 2013.
He allegedly ran a drug-peddling business in the city with youths recruited as agents, earning crores of rupees.
Paying a monthly rent of Rs 40,000 for a villa on Kanakapura Road, he owned a swanky car and property in his village.
Police received information about Rachappa and his men arriving at a hotel on 80ft Road Koramangala on January 20 and managed to nab them.
