Telugu Language a must in schools across Telangana
The Telugu language is all set to become mandatory for Class I to Class XII students in schools across the state from the academic year 2018-19. An ordinance in this regard will be passed by the Telangana government shortly.
Schools under CBSE, ICSE and IB boards will be brought under the ordinance.
As per the officials in the Law Department, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been advised that a need for an ordinance is not needed instead the purpose can be solved by a mere government order.
A committee headed by Potti Sriramulu Telugu University Vice-Chancellor SV Satyanarayana was constituted in 2017 to study the feasibility of implementation of the decision.
Three levels of Telugu education were suggested for children with different backgrounds and it was also emphasised that there is no way to bypass Telugu and pursue studies in Telangana.
