Kapu Reservations Bill put on hold

Update: 2018-02-15 22:32 IST

The Kapu Reservations Bill cleared by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly has been put on hold by the Central Home Ministry’s Personnel Department.

Citing a Supreme Court’s order that the reservations cannot be more than 50 percent, the Centre has asked the Ministry to refuse the Kapu Reservations Bill.

With Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham setting a deadline for the AP government to implement the reservations by March 31 or face agitations in the state, the political heat is surely going to rise in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the reports, the new reservations increase the quota higher than the prescribed 50 percent and needs to be placed in Section 9 of the constitution in order to prevent Judicial Interference but if done, new problems would arise in other states.
