Monorail system to be introduced in Warangal

 A Switzerland based monorail company, Intamin Transportation along with three other companies visited Warangal on Thursday to study the feasibility of introducing monorail in Telangana’s second largest city, Warangal.

The seven-member team was accompanied by Mayor N Narender and officials of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) and visited Rampur, Kazipet, Pochamma Maidan and Venkatrama theatre localities in the city.

According to the reports, the length of monorail project will be 12 km starting from Kazipet to Venkatrama theatre in Warangal with the estimated cost - Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,400 crore.

The project is said to be completed in 18 months since the execution of the project.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed between Telangana and Intamin Transportation soon.

The monorail transports 5,000 persons per hour with each train carrying 80 to 100 passengers. The fully automated service would be another milestone for the historic Warangal city.

IT Minister KT Rama Rao who has already held discussions with the representatives of the Intamin Transport during his recent visit to Davos will be meeting President of Global Spectrum, (Management Consultancy), Tika Mustafa Hasan on Friday in Hyderabad.
