Telangana summer to get hotter, Government prepares action plan
Telangana is likely to experience above normal heatwave conditions this year. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state which falls into the Core Heat Wave zone of India will have maximum temperatures above normal between March and May.
During the summer, the zone is likely to witness normal to above normal heatwave conditions.
Keeping the impact of heatwaves in view, the Telangana government has directed the Collectors to initiate advance action plans to avoid human causalities due to heatwave conditions.
Chief Secretary SK Joshi is expected to chair a review meeting in this regard on Saturday. Principal Commissioner & EO and Principal Secretary to the government, RV Chandravadan sent out a letter to Collectors recently regarding the preparations to tackle the summer where he informed that heatwaves are expected to have an early onset this year.
In the letter, he cautioned regarding the rise in day temperatures which is already being witnessed in many parts of the state and that the night temperatures are expected to be high from April to June.
Mentioning that Telangana has recorded an increasing trend of severe heatwave conditions in the March-June period with 2017 witnessing the loss of 108 human lives in different districts, he said that this year, such deaths should not take place.
Chandravadan called on the Collectors to make Heat Action Plan, publicise steps for sunstroke prevention, provide uninterrupted services in hospitals and local health centres and ensure availability of drinking water for people and animals.
