Durgam Cheruvu works speed up; project to complete by March next year

Update: 2018-03-19 18:54 IST

The cable bridge works at Durgam Cheruvu are pacing up with the project scheduled to be completed by March 2019.

Last year, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao had laid the foundation stone for the works on April 26. However, the plan was to complete the project by December 2018. With delays, the plans have now been revised to March next year.

The delays were said to have been caused by the material and machinery shifting from the precast unit at Kondapur to a worksite in Madhapur due to narrow roads and other logistics. Now, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials asserted that the issues are sorted and the works are progressing at a brisk pace.

Being constructed at a cost of Rs 187 crore to facilitate smooth flow of traffic in Madhapur and neighbouring areas, the project will ease traffic congestion on the roads leading to Jubilee Hills Road No 36, 45 along with other stretches that lead to Hitech City, Financial District and Gachibowli areas.

The project also aims to provide an incentive to aesthetic development and beautification at the water body. Further, the fencing and bund development works are being taken up at a cost of nearly Rs 90 lakh to prevent unauthorised entry into the lake premises.

In addition to these works, a cycling track covering 2.20 km, yoga centre, children’s park, and other facilities are being constructed at the lake.

In a bid to curb pollution, a Ganesh idols immersion pond is being constructed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh.
