TS Government to formulate Solid Waste Management rules
Hyderabad: Telangana Government will shortly formulate the solid waste management rules for the state, Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar said.
Presiding over the State Level Advisory Board meeting at the Secretariat today, Arvind Kumar said that the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has been asked to draft solid waste management policy guidelines for the state in consultation with various relevant stake holders.
He asked the pollution control board officials to inspect malls, function halls, hotels and hospitals to find out what steps have been taken for segregation and storage for solid waste and submit a report at the earliest. He also directed the GHMC officials to obtain a list of abandoned quarries from the mining department which can be used as dumping yards.
A comprehensive survey of the rag pickers should be taken up and suggest procedures for utilizing their services in the solid waste management activities in the urban local bodies, he added. All the urban local bodies have been asked to implement the driver cum owner scheme which envisages using Swachh autos for door to door collection of solid waste.
CDMA Dr T K Sridevi, GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy and other officials from the pollution control board and others attended the meeting.
