Man douses wife with kerosene, sets her ablaze for not buying watermelons
A man set his wife ablaze at Golconda on Sunday night in an attempt to kill her. The man, Sarvar told his wife, Tahaseen Begum to purchase watermelon on Sunday night around 10 pm. When his wife refused to step out of their residence near Area Hospital, Golconda since it was late in the night and the fruit might not be available, Sarvar ended up having an argument with her.
According to the victim’s statement, Sarvar had doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. No other family members were present at home when the incident took place.
Tahaseen survived the bid, but suffered 80% burns and is battling for life at Osmania Hospital. Since she suffered severe burns, the magistrate recorded the victim’s dying declaration which stated that her husband set her ablaze.
Police said that Sarvar, who too suffered nearly 10% burns, denied the charges and claimed it was a suicide bid. However, the couple’s son, during the investigation, gave a statement in support of his mother. It is learned that Sarvar was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. A case was registered under Sec 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC.
