Update: 2018-03-23 16:26 IST

With the Rajya Sabha elections being held today, the BJP has announced that it would stay away from the polls in Telangana.

The state BJP president K Laxman in a statement said that a decision was made in this regard as per the directives of the party's Central leadership.

The Rajya Sabha polls would be held to fill three vacancies with four candidates, three belonging to TRS and one Congress nominee in the fray.

Even TDP announced it would not take part in the Rajya Sabha election.

With both TDP and BJP not a part of the polls, the  TRS is likely to bag all the three seats since its ally AIMIM also extended its support to the party.
