Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Thursday responding to the discussions on the budget allocations for the Dept. of Minorities Welfare said that the TRS government is committed to providing 12 percent reservation to Muslims.

Asserting that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is taking the issue seriously, he said that a  bill was passed in TS Assembly and Council which was sent to Centre.

However, he added that the Central Government is delaying the issue due to which TRS MPs are registering their protest in both the houses of Parliament and are demanding to delegate powers to state government for providing reservations.

The Deputy CM pointed out that the minority budget was only Re. 1 crore in 1994 and KCR has now raised it to Rs. 2000 crore further adding that even though the other states have more population in minorities than Telangana, their budget is less.

Mahmood Ali highlighted the steps taken by TRS government for Minorities such as the establishment of 204 residential schools, awarding overseas scholarships, enhancement of grant for Shadi Mubarak Scheme to Rs. 100116 etc.
