AIIMS gets approval for establishment in Telangana
The long-pending All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Telangana has got an ‘in-principle’ approval from the Union Government.
The Ministry of Finance has directed the authorities to identify the land where the state government wants to establish AIIMS at the earliest. Only when the land is transferred to Union government and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of setting-up AIIMS on the identified land is submitted, the process for the establishment begin.
The Telangana government should identify and submit the name of the agency executing the AIIMS project besides providing a comparison of the cost incurred in the newly established AIIMS in other states and the cost to be incurred on the new AIIMS to be established in the state.
The approval of AIIMS project in Telangana is a major boost for the medical education and healthcare in State-run hospitals.
Apart from this, two new medical colleges in Mahabubnagar and Siddipet have received approval for their establishment while two more each in Nalgonda and Suryapet are in the pipeline.
