GHMC begins repair of ‘KTR-Ivanka Trump Road’
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took action to repair a stretch of damaged road in Marredpally area after citizens took matters into their own hands.
Last week, the citizens in the area went on to name the road - ‘KTR-Ivanka Trump Road’ to shame the government referring to Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, and US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump. The banners were put up at both sides of the road indicating the name.
The GHMC on Sunday began laying the road after several months of public effort and media coverage.
Last year, in November, large parts of Hyderabad and Cyberabad were transformed for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ivanka Trump as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES).
However, several residents from other areas protested against the damaged roads alleging that the roads which Ivanka Trump wasn’t visiting were being ignored.
During the same time, around 50 residents staged a protest on the road beside St Johns Junior College at Sangeeth Cross Roads, holding placards which read ‘Ms Ivanka Trump, please come to this road’. With no response, the locals decided to repair the road themselves but the images went viral on social media and the following week, the GHMC called for tenders and began work on the road.
