Hyderabad Metro Rail on extension mode

Update: 2018-05-08 17:39 IST

The Hyderabad Metro Rail, which launched a Ladies Special Coach on Monday is gearing up to double the frequency of its service. Works on the 16-km stretch between Ameerpet and LB Nagar are set to be done by July and the Corridor I would be completed, thus linking the entire Miyapur-LB Nagar route of 29 km.

Next is the crucial stretch between Ameerpet and Hitech City which would be completed by October. The connectivity would be between Nagole to Hitech City, a 27-km stretch.

Early next year, the 10-km stretch from Jubilee Bus Station to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station would be completed paving way for the entry of Hyderabad Metro into Old City.

Possibilities are being explored to connect the Metro Rail from all parts of the city to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). The completion of the LB Nagar stretch would enable connectivity from Nagole to LB Nagar via Inner Ring Road and Falaknuma to RGIA, the connection from the other side of the city via the Hitech City route is being explored.

The frequency of trains and cutting down interval between each service from 15 minutes to about 7 resulted in the daily ridership crossing 70,000. The frequency may be further increased, probably to about one train every four minutes once the extension of the services to Hitech City was completed.

Also, the officials are working on the duration of services. According to L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited COO Anil Kumar Saini, the daily maintenance operations require at least five hours and with the services beginning at 6 am every day, the issue of extending services beyond midnight is yet to be finalized.
