A section of doctors in the Telangana-run Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad launched an agitation against the state government’s decision on raising the retiring age of professors from 58 to 65 in teaching hospitals.
Taking up a mass casual leave, the doctors, however, did not disturb the emergency service.
The doctors stated that the government’s decision will lead to the assistant and associate professors losing out on promotion opportunities.
A group of the protesting doctors met Governor ESL Narasimhan in this regard. They also plan to hold talks with state Health Minister C Laxma Reddy on Saturday.
