TS Govt to launch 20 electric vehicles for GHMC
While the Indian government is yet to initiate plans to promote electric vehicles to prevent pollution and save fuel, Telangana government is setting up an example by announcing its decision to hire 20 electric vehicles for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.
The news was shared by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on the eve of World Environment Day.
The electric vehicles are being hired at Rs 22,500 per vehicle on monthly basis including the salary of the driver.
So far, GHMC has been allotting Rs 34000 on diesel on hired vehicles. In a bid to reduce the cost and pollution, GHMC has opted to hire electric vehicles. Speaking in this regard, GHMC Executive Engineer Srinivasa Chary revealed that charging points are set up at various locations. Stating that each vehicle takes eight hours to be charged completely to run for over 100 kms, he further added that over 190 vehicles will be utilized in the first phase following the introduction of the electric vehicles.
