The schemes that made KCR popular

​Hyderabad:  Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao completed four years in office on Friday. KCR’s unique administrative skills and political acumen brought many laurels to the newly formed Telangana in the country. The balance maintained in the allocation of funds for welfare and developmental programmes in every financial year were already yielding desirable results.   

Besides consolidating his position politically by strengthening his party and floating the idea of Federal Front, KCR has put his own mark in the administration by introducing a slew of first of its kind schemes in the country in Telangana. 

Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, Kaleshwaram Project and the just-launched Rythu Bandhu and Rs 5 lakh Insurance scheme for the farming community are the jewels in KCR’s crown in his four-year dispensation. These flagship programmes drew national attention many other states emulated KCR by adopting his schemes. 

Apart from fulfilling the promises made by him in 2014 election manifesto, the TRS supremo introduced many schemes like Rythu Bandhu, insurance scheme, KCR Kits, etc aiming to wipe out the problems of farming community and other poorer sections permanently. 

The Aasara pension scheme launched by KCR in 2014 had given social security to more than 39 lakh poor in the state.  The total expenditure incurred on the pension scheme has been increased to Rs 5,400 crore in 2018 from Rs 2,100 crore in 2014-15. Old aged, handicapped, widows, weavers, beedi workers, Aids patients, single woman and toddy tappers were covered under the scheme.

The latest Rythu Bandhu scheme under which farmer will get Rs 8,000 per annum per acre attracted national attention.  The First installment of Rs 4,000 per acre to every land holding farmer was already disbursed. The government earmarked  Rs 12,000 crore for the crop investment support scheme alone. 

The reorganisation of 10 districts into 31 facilitated more transparency in the governance and reached the benefits of every scheme to the needy at the door steps. Land records purification and Samagra Kutumba Survey resolved many issues mainly land disputed and identification of real beneficiaries of all schemes. 

The revival of abandoned water bodies under Mission Kakatiya, re-designing the long-pending irrigation projects and Kaleshwaram project brought a big relief to the distressed farming community and bolstered agriculture-based economy. The contribution of farming sector in the GSDP was increasing substantially during the four-year of KCR in Telangana.  

The Mission Bhagiratha scheme launched to provide potable drinking water through taps in every household was at the completion stage. The scheme will help to optimum utilization of river Krishna and Godavari water for both drinking water and industrial needs in the future.

On political front, KCR also succeeded in weakening the Congress and TDP by luring the Opposition leaders and legislators. The TRS was weak in organizational setup till 2014 elections.  Now, the ruling party emerged as a strong political outfit with its strong presence in every village.  The CM’s plan to unite all non- congress and non-BJP forces under the banner of Federal Front was also receiving a good response.
