Four Telanagana medical colleges barred from admissions in 2018-19
Four Medical colleges in Telangana have been denied permission to admit students from the 2018-19 academic year declining the existing count of 2,200 MBBS seats in private colleges by at least 600.
Following the Medical Council of India (MCI) recommendations submitted last month, the Union Health Ministry made the decision after a thorough assessment of these institutes.
The four colleges - Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences in Vikrabad, Maheshwara Medical College & Hospital in Medak, SVS Medical College in Mahabubnagar and Malla Reddy Medical College for Women in Hyderabad have been barred due to various discrepancies.
As per the details, each college had submitted a proposal to renew its intake of 150 seats.
The proposal for three new medical colleges in Telangana — TRR Institute of Medical Sciences in Sangareddy, Dr Patnam Mahender Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences and Surabhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Medak was also rejected by the Ministry.
The proposal of MNR Medical College & Hospital in Sangareddy to enhance its number of seats from 100 to 150 was also denied.
The Ministry officials, however, claim that these rejections won’t impact on the number of MBBS seats since a government medical college in Siddipet and two private medical colleges - Ayan Institute of Medical Sciences and RVM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre have been approved for the state adding 450 seats.
