Newly-appointed in-charge Chandy promises Congress will grant special status
The Congress party in Andhra Pradesh held a state-wide party review meeting, headed by Oommen Chandy, AICC general secretary and recently appointed party in-charge of Andhra in Vijayawada in the presence of veteran leaders.
According to the source, as many as 105 Congress leaders participated in the meeting, including former Union ministers, MPs, MLAs and district Congress in-charges.
The Congress which had a huge share in Andhra Pradesh until 2014, faced disappointment after failing to win even a single seat in the state following the state bifurcation in the same year.
Speaking at the meet, Chandy said he would hold one on one meetings to design a future course of action for the 2019 general elections.
Congress leaders believe that Chandy’s experience in AP and national politics will help the party regain its past glory.
Congress official spokesperson Kolanukonda Sivaji addressed the media saying that they hope Chandy’s experience will help them to strengthen our party.
Speaking to the media after the review meeting, Chandy said that the Congress was committed to granting the Special Category Status to AP as it was promised earlier in the Parliament. Sources reveal that Chandy is set to hold an executive meeting of PCC (Pradesh Congress Council) today.
