Two child marriages averted in Telangana
Two child marriages were averted on Tuesday in Khammam district. One of them was scheduled to be held today in Rudrakshapalli village in Sattupalli. However, the staff of the Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens (WCD&SC) Department in association with the activists of an NGO prevented the child marriage.
Based on a tip-off, a team led by the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) rushed to the village in the afternoon. They found a local farmer had made arrangements in front of his house for performing the marriage of his 17-year-old daughter with a 25-year-old youth of Jangareddygudem of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday morning.
Another marriage of a minor girl was thwarted on Tuesday after a SHE for HER volunteer at Govt Junior College Yadagirigutta tipped the Rachakonda Police about the marriage of the 17-year-old hailing from Vadaigudem in Bhuvanagiri mandal, to a 26-year-old man scheduled to take place on July 1 at Yadagirigutta.
