Four arrested for selling a month-old baby girl in Hyderabad

 Police have arrested four persons, including two women on Wednesday in Hyderabad for selling a month-old baby girl for Rs 50,000. 

The accused, identified as Bharath Kumar of Borabanda, his wife T Lakshmi, L Balaji of Hayathanagar and his sister-in-law Laxmi were approached by a couple who wanted to give away the baby as it was their third girl child.

According to the police, the girl’s parents, Sujatha and Bhajan who reside in Hayathnagar approached Balaji to give the child freely to any needy parent. However, Balaji along with Laxmi sold the child to Bharath Kumar and Lakshmi.

The couple, who work at a fertility centre, made a deal with another customer in Miyapur for Rs 70,000. Their conversation was overheard by a hawker who followed them to Miyapur. While he was offered money, the hawker, in turn, brought them to Punjagutta police station.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 81 of Juvenile Justice Act.
