Vijayawada cops conduct drunken driving raids
The Vijayawada police have conducted a massive drunken drive campaign in the city. The police frisked the cars and two-wheelers at eight places in the city and caught around 166 persons found to be drunk while driving. They also seized 139 two-wheelers, 16 auto rickshaws, 12 cars and one Tata Ace trolly vehicle. The arrested persons were given counseling in the AR grounds. They also registered over 300 cases.
According to traffic DCP Ramaprasad Rao, efforts were on to convert Vijayawada into a safe city. He said the police would ask the RTO officials to cancel the driving licences of those caught in the drunk and drive checkings. He said if students were found involved in drunken drive, their licences would be conficated.
