Telangana ranks third among the best-governed states in India
Telangana occupies the third position in the best-governed states in the country.
The Public Affairs Index 2018 released by the think tank Public Affairs Centre (PAC) adjudged Kerala as the best-governed state in the country for the third consecutive year since 2016.
Among the top five large states, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Gujarat were the other states delivering good governance.
Telangana figures among the top five states in fiscal management (1), economic freedom (3), transparency and accountability (5).
According to the report, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar ranked the lowest, exhibiting higher social and economic inequalities in the states.
The Index analyses governance performance in the states through a data-based framework, classifying them on social and economic development they are able to provide.
Divided into two categories, large and small, based on their population, the states with more than two crore population were considered large. Himachal Pradesh topped the list among the smaller states followed by Goa, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura which figured among the top five states with good governance while Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya positioned at the bottom of the index.
