Rally against human trafficking kicks off, TS Govt promises stringent action
Telangana Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy on Wednesday flagged off a rally against human trafficking organized by the Hyderabad Police and an NGO, Prajwala.
Speaking in this regard, he said that the state government would deal firmly with human trafficking and the traffickers will get stringent punishment as per the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection, and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018 passed in Parliament.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar sought support from the public to fight against this menace asserting that human trafficking will not be tolerated.
The rally came out a day after the Telangana Police busted a sex racket in which traffickers were pushing children into prostitution after using hormonal injections to make them attain puberty early.
11 girls aged between 3 and 12 years were rescued by the police in the temple town of Yadgirigutta and eight persons were arrested.
The Home Minister noted that the victims were being used for sex work, child labour, begging and other crimes apart from being employed in bangle industry and brick kilns.
Stating that action will be taken under the Preventive Detention Act to ensure that such incidents do not recur in cases of human trafficking, he said that the child labourers were being rescued and rehabilitated under operation 'Muskan’.
