Mission Bhagiratha Introduces Flow Control Valve System

Mission Bhagiratha Programme launched in the year 2016 aims to provide an equitable supply of drinking water to each one of the 68.06 lakh households across the state. 

But several issues have been raised up after the people began installing water pumps in a bid to draw more water than their neighbours. And the people who don't have the water pumps or staying in the low lying areas are reported to have been facing a shortage of water.

To avoid the issue, the government has introduced a flow control valve system to control the supply of water despite the installation of water pumps.

The valve which is connected to the pipeline leading to the tap controls the flow of water to five litres per minute. Any attempt to draw more water will shut the water supply as the valve is designed to provide the water only at a limited speed.

According to the  Mission's consultant and former rural water supply chief engineer Jaganmohan Rao, the technology is being implemented for the first time in the country.
