Shah to take on TRS, MIM, Mahakutami

Update: 2018-10-10 05:30 IST

Hyderabad: The second public meeting of BJP chief Amit Shah at Karimnagar on Wednesday is all set to tune the tone of the party for an aggressive campaign ahead for the forthcoming State Assembly elections. According to the party sources, "irresponsible governance and irresponsible politics" of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the four-and-a-half years of TRS rule in the state is going to be the main theme of the attack.

Speaking to The Hans India, a senior party functionary said, "He (Amit Shah) will be taking head-on the TRS and Congress Mahakutami setting the tone for the party campaign in North Telangana, while drawing a parallel of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's four-and-half years government at the Centre, and what all it had done to Telangana."

To back up the claims, the saffron party chief is expected to list out the projects and programmes for which the Centre had released funds to Telangana. He will also explain to people how the State government has failed to extend its benefits to various sections of people vis-a-vis other states in the country.

The State party has already sent a lot of information related to the electoral promises made by KCR in 2014 general elections and how the TRS government has failed to deliver them. They include an annual budgetary allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for the Scheduled Castes.

That apart, the party chief will also be questioning the commitment of the TRS government to providing reservations in proportion to the population. It is within the power of the State governments to enhance reservations in proportion to the ST population.

However, the TRS government had linked it to providing 12 per cent reservations to Muslim minorities and lobbed the ball into the Centre's court, knowing well, the Centre would not approve it, the sources pointed out. Similarly, under the land distribution scheme of three acres the State could only provide 14,200 acres so far to 5,216 beneficiaries, besides depriving housing for 3.5 lakh people under Pradhana Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the name of double bedroom houses.

Likewise, striking where it hurts more, the saffron party chief is also expected to raise the issue of farmers and young and unemployed of Telangana. While the police records claim about 4,500 farmers had committed suicide the State government has so far identified only 450 farmers to provide Rs 5 lakh compensation promised in such cases. Also, the BJP which is eying to garner the support of the students and youth will make it into the Amit Shah’s speech on how the promise of recruitment of two lakh jobs ended up cheating them by the TRS government.

Despite the Centre has released Rs 2.3 lakh crore for various schemes for the overall development of the Telangana, the State is not able to deliver on its own promises besides letting down people by not extending the benefits of the Central schemes to the people for political reasons, they added.

The party chief’s address will have more fireworks with regard to Congress' Mahakutami and the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). However, it remains to be seen whether the party chief would take the name of TDP in the backdrop of the recent outbursts of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu charging the Centre of political vendetta using the income-tax and enforcement directorate.
