Telangana, AP to share Krishna water equally

As directed by the Krishna River Management Board, the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has agreed to share the available 200 tmc of water equally i.e, 100 tmc for each state.

The board which held the meeting at Jalasouda on Tuesday took the decision on the water sharing between the two states. The meeting presided over by KRMB chairman RK Jain with the presence of officials from both States, including Chief Secretary of Telangana SK Joshi and Irrigation secretary of AP Shashi Bhushan.

The water will be equally shared from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs until June next year, which seems to be a great relief for the Telangana.

The water board chairman notified both the state officials that AP has utilised 253 tmc per year and Telangana 88 tmc of the total 593 TMC of water. Earlier, the two states had utilised the water in the ratio of 66.34 (AP:TS).
