Bathukamma, Bonalu enters Oxford dictionary
Telangana state festivals Bathukamma and Bonalu have found its way into Oxford dictionary. The two words which garnered worldwide attention will be soon included in the English dictionary.
Upon the request from Nizamabad MP Kavitha to Oxford English Dictionary (OED) in November last year, the revision editor Penny of the dictionary agreed to add the words on learning the importance of the meaning they hold.
With respect to this, the Telangana Jagruthi has received a letter from OED accepting the proposal on October 23.
Overwhelmed by the news, the MP Kavitha expressed her happiness on micro-blogging site Twitter saying that two new words of Telangana culture included in OED.
So happy to receive this letter from the Oxford English Dictionary @oed acknowledging our request to include the words “Bathukamma” and “Bonalu” in the English dictionary!
